How did you two meet?
Hunter and I met in college and we were set up by mutual friends. We were friends for about a year before we officially started dating. Our first real date, he was so shy I did not think he was interested in me! When he asked me to be his girlfriend, I was so relieved to know he felt the same way as I did. What has been great about our relationship was that it started slow and as a friendship and turned into being best friends and now husband/wife!
What is your special engagement story?
Hunter planned a quick get away trip to Colorado. We went in late April and to our surprise, there was a big snow storm that had come through that was allowing us to ski that weekend. There were only a few lifts available so we made our best judgement and went for it. To say we are awful skiers is an understatement. Our first run down, Hunter had a major wipe out and as I followed him down (filming, of course), I was dying laughing but now looking back, I feel bad for laughing because he must have been so worried about falling and having the ring in his jacket pocket! We skied the majority of the day, stopping up top for a nice lunch and enjoying the view. Towards the end of our day, we stopped down the mountain to set up a camera to take our picture, and by the time he had set it up and I had gotten situated, he was down on one knee! I was so shocked and said YES! We skied down the mountain, and enjoyed the night with some Italian food and wine! To my surprise, he had only asked my dad for my hand in marriage, and he did not tell anyone else! So sneaky.

What theme and color palette did you follow?
I would say “Fall Forward.” I think we tried to keep traditional rich fall colors (deep burgundy, navy, gold), but with a more organic feel to match our venue. Our venue had a rustic yet industrial feel to it, so we tried to capture both of those feelings with our theme and colors. It was important for it to feel warm and inviting.
Did you have favorite flowers or a decor area?
I truly loved my bouquet and my bridesmaids bouquets as well. They were so different than any other I had seen and felt like it was made for just me. It was exactly what I had envisioned and matched their dresses perfectly. I love how our tables turned out too. We wanted to keep it simple, but elegant.
Did you create or customize favors?
Our special gift to everyone was chicken and waffle skewers with spiced honey for a late night snack. It was a hit!
Can you tell us the dress maker for your gown and any details?
I got my dress from Blush Bridal Lounge and originally, I had my heart set on a very simple dress. When I went here, I had seen my dress on an Instagram post and instantly fell in love with it once I tried it on. It was by Mikaela Bridal. I got my alterations done by Victoria McClane and she was such a joy to work with and did an incredible job. Highly recommend her for the Austin area!
What made your wedding day unique?
I think what made our day so special was obviously having our entire family and loved ones there, but that we really wanted everyone to feel welcome, loved and like they were part of a true celebration! Our venue was also so special to us. It had the perfect amount of rustic charm and industrial modern touches that was so fitting for both Hunter and I’s taste. It provided indoor and outdoor space so that the amazing weather and fun could be felt from any part of the room. We also did a homestyle dinner so that you passed plates to one another, which made it feel very intimate. I also surprised Hunter with a cake in the shape of Texas with his favorite Gameguard Camo! He loved it.
What was your biggest splurge?
Our biggest splurge was definitely with food and their service they provided. We truly loved working with Royal Fig Catering and were impressed from the day we did our tasting, all the way up until day of. The food was incredible! Living in Austin and being surrounded by amazing food all the time, we felt it was important to bring that to our wedding especially because just about everyone was coming from out of town!
Can you pick a favorite moment on the Wedding day that you would like to share?
My favorite moment was walking down the aisle with my dad, and seeing Hunter for the first time. He smiled at me and all of a sudden I felt very at peace and ease. I thought I was going to be so nervous and it just felt right having my two main men next to me, supporting us both into our new phase of life.
I would say another favorite was Hunter and I writing letters to each other. Hunter can be pretty shy so when it came to saying our vows in front of 140 people, we decided to keep that moment to ourselves and put it into a letter to read beforehand instead.
Hunter’s brother, Kanon, on the other hand is NOT shy! He gave the greatest Best Man speech with Harry Potter impersonations and all. It was hilarious, and most definitely a speech everyone will remember!
Did you find a great honeymoon place? Can you share any fun excursions or advice to others?
We did! We went to the Secret’s resort in Playa Mujeres. It was BEAUTIFUL! The beaches were gorgeous. As for advice, bring your own shampoo and conditioner. The 3-in-1 they provided did not do my hair any GOOD! Haha!
What are other points or advice you would like to share about your love story or wedding day to other new brides?
- Plan ahead – earlier than anticipated!
- I recommend at least a “day of” coordinator. Take the stress off yourself and your family so you can truly enjoy your day.
- Ask questions! Do not be afraid to ask as many questions needed with your vendors and read your contracts thoroughly! It is the only way to know if they are a true fit and that expectations are set on both ends!
- Go to more than one bridal shop.
- Budget big for alterations. Surprise! They don’t tell you how expensive a bustle and hem can be! All of a sudden the train you wanted went choo choo choo all the way to the bank.
- Thank your family and friends for all the help and support they give you through this time. You give a lot of yourself, but don’t forget about those special people around you too. Whether it was emotionally or financially, be mindful of those closest to you!
- Be present. It really does pass by so fast and before you know it, it is over! Try to not sweat the small stuff and have the best day ever
